Resistivity Measurement, Resistors and Ohm’s Law | For various materials, we may study their characteristics in different aspects, including chemical properties, physical properties, mechanical properties and electrical properties. In this experiment, the student is expected to study the major electrical properties of some common materials. Basically, the resistivity is a common parameter to measure how conductive the material is. Generally, the conductive material has a very low resistance of (mΩ) order. On the contrary, an insulating material has a very high resistance of tens of (MΩ). By definition, the resistivity of a conductor is given as below:

The most fundamental relationship of circuit theory is Ohm’s law. Ohm’s states that in a purely resistive circuit, current is directly proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance. There are three ways to express Ohm’s Law, namely,

Small resistors, the kind that you encounter most often in electronic products, are too small to have their values printed on the components. Instead, these smaller resistors are usually covered by an epoxy or similar insulating coating over which several colored bands are printed radially as shown in Figure 1.

The first two bands represent the first and second digits of the resistance values. The third band is called the multiplier band and represent the number of zeros following the first two digits; it is usually given as the power of ten. The fourth band indicates the tolerance of the resistor, and the fifth band (if present) is an indication of the expected reliability of the components. Open Source Static Analysis Tools for Security Testing of Java Web Applications | The focus of our analysis, which is summarized in this document, was to evaluate the use of Open Source Java test tools in the context of Java web application security. Most of the tools discussed here are not designed for this purpose. Thus, we want to emphasize that the tools listed and discussed in this document should not be considered inferior or inappropriate. We do not assess the value of any tool in general or in comparison with others. Most of the tools discussed might be suitable for their intended purpose and application context.

The target group of this documentation should have a fundamental understanding of the security problems of web applications. Please find corresponding references in the Related work section. Moreover, a basic understanding of static analysis tools for Java is necessary, since we only provide a brief introduction to the section ‘basics of static analyzers’ in section Executive summary.

This document summarizes our analysis of Open Source tools which we have selected and examined to evaluate their characteristics for enabling security tests for Java web applications. In the context of our work, we focused on static analysis tools only. Thus, in the following we always refer to Java and static analysis when we speak about testing tools. The following material and references should be useful for Java software developers with security concerns. Please note that we present the current status of our analysis in July 2006. The most important result of our analysis is the fact that there are no Open Source tools for static analysis with sufficient support for security tests. Even though there are several commercial1 tools in this sector, such as Fortify Tools [5], CodeAssure [6], or Coverity Prevent [7], Open Source projects simply do not provide corresponding bug detectors and rules for security. Consequently, we focused on the extensibility of Open Source tools for our analysis. Our purpose was to examine whether the selected tools provide sufficient methods for implementing security tests. Please note, when we speak about Open Source tools, we refer to all projects which provide their tools and their sources freely to the public. Object Oriented Programming using Java | This book aims to instil the reader with an understanding of the Object Oriented approach to programming and aims to develop some practical skills along the way. These practical skills will be developed by small exercises that the reader will be invited to undertake and the feedback that will be provided. The concepts that will be explained and skills developed are in common use among programmers using many modern object oriented languages and are thus transferrable from one language to another. However for practical purposes these concepts are explored and demonstrated using the Java programming language.

While the Java programming language is used to highlight and demonstrate the application of fundamental object oriented principles and modelling techniques this book is not an introduction to Java programming. The reader will be expected to have an understanding of basic programming concepts and their implementation in Java (inc. the use of loops, selection statements, performing calculations, arrays, data types and a basic understanding of file handling).

This text is designed not as a theoretical textbook but as a learning tool to aid in understanding theoretical concepts and learning the practical skills required to implement these. To this end each chapter will incorporate small exercises with solutions and feedback provided. Migrating WebLogic Applications to WebSphere Advanced Edition | This redbook will help you plan the migration of an application developed for BEA WebLogic Server, so that the application will run on WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Edition. We explain the differences between the implementations of WebLogic and WebSphere, provide guidance to developers on how to deploy existing applications from WebLogic to WebSphere, and discuss how to design portable new applications that may be deployed on WebSphere or WebLogic. In today’s high-end, Java-based, enterprise application server market, the two leading products are WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Edition from International Business Machines Corporation, and BEA WebLogic Server from BEA. Both of these products offer robust support for complex Web-based enterprise applications. Moreover, by adhering to Java standards, they offer a level of portability far beyond that attained by earlier transaction monitor technologies. In addition to exploiting the write-once feature of the Java language, these products closely adhere to the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) specification and associated reference implementation from Sun Microsystems. Portability and adaptability are key properties of enterprise applications. By adhering to the J2EE standard, application developers automatically gain a high degree of portability. Given the J2EE support in BEA WebLogic Server and WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Edition, it should be, at least in theory, a trivial task to take an application written for a WebLogic system, and move it over to run on a WebSphere system. In practice, however, there are various reasons why this migration can be non-trivial. As a practical guide, this book identifies the potential trouble spots in such a migration, and guides the reader through this migration task. One word of caution — although WebLogic supports J2EE, its use is optional. The primary focus of this book is on migrating J2EE-compliant applications to WebSphere. One of the biggest problems with wireless networks today is the lack of intrusion detection. Banks, investment firms, hospitals, law offices, and other organizations that house sensitive information may have a corporate policy stating that wireless LANs are not allowed. They may think that this “no-use” policy keeps their networks safe and secure, but they are gravely mistaken.
